What were we like their age?

​Was it hard back in our time?
I am sure it was, we respected our elders and didn’t answer back
And if we did? Then we received a slap!

We were kind and all so different 
People just started to connected back then, but others felt comfortable in their own culture to feel safe, 
We were all navigating our behaviour like water crossing a wave.

Thought it was cool to have a cigarette and drink
And now we are tired for what we put ourselves through as our frayed nervous system makes us blink. 

We enjoyed board games
And I am sure they are played today, 
Monopoly, operation and Buckeroo
The times we used our minds not google, we looked towards all opportunities and possible clues.

We are now impatient and want everything now, 
We were more physical and did most things without a phone, 
Often you felt stumbled and alone. 

We learned the hard way 
But we it held us in good stead, 
Yes racism was around and that was horrid to see, 
Yes, it was a different time, one I remember with fondness when I notice you in me.
