What it use to be like (80s poem)

There were two or three channels on the TV
We didn’t text, we wrote letters, that glide of ink on paper as the flow felt free.

People spoke slowly,
Yes, there were times we did rush,
We were so laid back then, and people weren’t upset if we said: “hush”.

Sport was slower
But we saw some of the greatest occasions,
Italy winning the 1982 World Cup in soccer, in the hot climate of Spain
As we waited for programmes that were scheduled, and for us that was okay!

Computer games took time to load
Unless you went to the arcade machines at the pier,
People did have their issues, and yes.. there was a lot to fear.

We loved, danced and wanted to have fun
No era is perfect, but to be fair, this 80s period was better than some.

We laughed, cried and people didn’t wear the tightest of clothes
Unless you saw Wonder Woman or actors in a space programme on television
Yet those times we sat in front of the box was balanced, and less of a mission.

“80s had their trials but it’s fondly remembered for those who experimented this period”
